Looking Unto Jesus Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CDEE FFGG HHII JJKL CCMM NNOO PPQR

By various maxims forms and rulesA
That pass for wisdom in the schoolsA
I strove my passion to restrainB
But all my efforts proved in vainB
-
But since the Saviour I have knownC
My rules are all reduced to oneD
To keep my Lord by faith in viewE
This strength supplies and motives tooE
-
I see him lead a suff'ring lifeF
Patient amidst reproach and strifeF
And from his pattern courage takeG
To bear and suffer for his sakeG
-
Upon the cross I see him bleedH
And by the sight from guilt am freedH
This sight destroys the life of sinI
And quickens heav'nly life withinI
-
To look to Jesus as he roseJ
Confirms my faith disarms my foesJ
Satan I shame and overcomeK
By pointing to my Saviour's tombL
-
Exalted on his glorious throneC
I see him make my cause his ownC
Then all my anxious cares subsideM
For Jesus lives and will provideM
-
I see him look with pity downN
And hold in view the conqu'ror's crownN
If pressed with griefs and cares beforeO
My soul revives nor asks for moreO
-
By faith I see the hour at handP
When in his presence I shall standP
Then it will be my endless blissQ
To see him where and as he isR
