Laodicea Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFEF GHGI JKLK MNMN OFOF PQPR

Hear what the Lord the great AmenA
The true and faithful Witness saysB
He formed the vast creation's planC
And searches all our hearts and waysD
-
To some he speaks as once of oldE
I know thee thy profession's vainF
Since thou art neither hot nor coldE
I'll spit thee from me with disdainF
-
Thou boasteth I am wise and richG
Increased in goods and nothing needH
And dost not know thou art a wretchG
Naked and poor and blind and deadI
-
Yet while I thus rebuke I loveJ
My message is in mercy sentK
That thou may'st my compassion proveL
I can forgive if thou repentK
-
Wouldst thou be truly rich and wiseM
Come buy my gold in fire well triedN
My ointment to anoint thine eyesM
My robe thy nakedness to hideN
-
See at thy door I stand and knockO
Poor sinner shall I wait in vainF
Quickly thy stubborn heart unlockO
That I may enter with my trainF
-
Thou canst not entertain a kingP
Unworthy thou of such a guestQ
But I my own provisions bringP
To make thy soul a heavenly feastR
