Father Forgive Them Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDE FGFG HIHI JKJK LMLN OPOP

Father forgive the Saviour saidA
They know not what they doB
His heart was moved when thus he prayedC
For me my friends and youB
-
He saw that as the Jews abusedD
And crucified his fleshE
So he by us would be refusedD
And crucified afreshE
-
Through love of sin we long were proneF
To act as Satan bidG
But now with grief and shame we ownF
We knew not what we didG
-
We knew not the desert of sinH
Nor whom we thus defiedI
Nor where our guilty souls had beenH
If Jesus had not diedI
-
We knew not what a law we brokeJ
How holy just and pureK
Nor what a God we durst provokeJ
But thought ourselves secureK
-
But Jesus all our guilt foresawL
And shed his precious bloodM
To satisfy the holy lawL
And make our peace with GodN
-
My sin dear Saviour made thee bleedO
Yet didst thou pray for meP
I knew not what I did indeedO
When ignorant of theeP
