Ephesus Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDE FGHH AAII GGJJ HHHH

Thus saith the Lord to EphesusA
And thus he speaks to some of usA
Amidst my churches lo I standB
And hold the pastors in my handB
-
Thy works to me are fully knownC
Thy patience and thy toil I ownC
Thy views of gospel truth are clearD
Nor canst thou other doctrine bearE
-
Yet I must blame while I approveF
Where is thy first thy fervent loveG
Dost thou forget my love to theeH
That thine is grown so faint to meH
-
Recall to mind the happy daysA
When thou wast filled with joy and praiseA
Repent thy former works renewI
Then I'll restore thy comforts tooI
-
Return at once when I reproveG
Lest I thy candlestick removeG
And thou too late thy loss lamentJ
I warn before I strike RepentJ
-
Hearken to what the Spirit saithH
To him that overcomes by faithH
The fruit of life's unfading treeH
In paradise his food shall beH
