Elijah Fed By Ravens Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJKJELEL MNMOJPQP FRFRSTST

Elijah's example declaresA
Whatever distress may betideB
The saints may commit all their caresA
To him who will surely provideB
When rain long withheld from the earthC
Occasioned a famine of breadD
The prophet secure from the dearthC
By ravens was constantly fedD
-
More likely to rob than to feedE
Were ravens who live upon preyF
But when the Lord's people have needE
His goodness will find out a wayF
This instance to those may seem strangeG
Who know not how faith can prevailH
But sooner all nature shall changeG
Than one of God's promises failH
-
Nor is it a singular caseI
The wonder is often renewedJ
And many can say to his praiseK
He sends them by ravens their foodJ
Thus worldlings though ravens indeedE
Though greedy and selfish their mindL
If God has a servant to feedE
Against their own wills can be kindL
-
Thus Satan that raven uncleanM
Who croaks in the ears of the saintsN
Compelled by a power unseenM
Administers oft to their wantsO
God teaches them how to find foodJ
From all the temptations they feelP
This raven who thirsts for my bloodQ
Has helped me to many a mealP
-
How safe and how happy are theyF
Who on the good Shepherd relyR
He gives them out strength for their dayF
Their wants he will surely supplyR
He ravens and lions can tameS
All creatures obey his commandT
Then let me rejoice in his nameS
And leave all my cares in his handT
