Dagon Before The Ark Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE FGFG HIHI JKLKWhen first to make my heart his own | A |
The Lord revealed his mighty grace | B |
Self reigned like Dagon on the throne | A |
But could not long maintain its place | B |
- | |
It fell and owned the pow'r divine | C |
Grace can with ease the vict'ry gain | D |
But soon this wretched heart of mine | C |
Contrived to set it up again | E |
- | |
Again the Lord his name proclaimed | F |
And brought the hateful idol low | G |
Then self like Dagon broken maimed | F |
Seemed to receive a mortal blow | G |
- | |
Yet self is not of life bereft | H |
Nor ceases to oppose his will | I |
Though but a maimed stump be left | H |
'Tis Dagon 'tis an idol still | I |
- | |
Lord must I always guilty prove | J |
And idols in my heart have room | K |
Oh let the fire of heavenly love | L |
The very slump of self consume | K |
