But One Loaf Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGI JKJK LMLM NONO

When the disciples crossed the lakeA
With but one loaf on boardB
How strangely did their hearts mistakeA
The caution of their LordB
-
The leaven of the PhariseesC
Beware the Saviour saidD
They thought it is because he seesC
We have forgotten breadD
-
It seems they had forgotten tooE
What their own eyes had viewedF
How with what scarce sufficed for fewE
He fed a multitudeF
-
If five small loaves by his commandG
Could many thousands serveH
Might they not trust his gracious handG
That they should never starveI
-
They oft his pow'r and love had knownJ
And doubtless were to blameK
But we have reason good to ownJ
That we are just the sameK
-
How often has he brought reliefL
And every want suppliedM
Yet soon again our unbeliefL
Says Can the Lord provideM
-
Be thankful for one loaf todayN
Though that be all your storeO
Tomorrow if you trust and prayN
Shall timely bring you moreO
