Ask What I Shall Give Thee (ii) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFGH IJIJ KLKM NONO PQPQ RSTS

If Solomon for wisdom prayedA
The Lord before had made him wiseB
Else he another choice had madeA
And asked for what the worldlings prizeB
-
Thus he invites his people stillC
He first instructs them how to chooseD
Then bids them ask whate'er they willC
Assured that He will not refuseD
-
Our wishes would our ruin proveE
Could we our wretched choice obtainF
Before we feel the Saviour's loveG
Kindle our love to him againH
-
But when our hearts perceive his worthI
Desires till then unknown take placeJ
Our spirits cleave no more to earthI
But pant for holiness and graceJ
-
And dost thou say Ask what thou wiltK
Lord I would seize the golden hourL
I pray to be released from guiltK
And freed from sin and Satan's pow'rM
-
More of thy presence Lord impartN
More of thine image let me bearO
Erect thy throne within my heartN
And reign without a rival thereO
-
Give me to read my pardon sealedP
And from thy joy to draw my strengthQ
To have thy boundless love revealedP
In all its height and breadth and lengthQ
-
Grant these requests I ask no moreR
But to thy care the rest resignS
Sick or in health or rich or poorT
All shall be well if thou art mineS
