Adam Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE FGFH IJIK LMLM NONO KPKP IQIR

On man in his own image madeA
How much did GOD bestowB
The whole creation homage paidA
And owned him LORD belowB
-
He dwelt in Eden's garden storedC
With sweets for every senseD
And there with his descending LORDC
He walked in confidenceE
-
But O by sin how quickly changedF
His honour forfeitedG
His heart from God and truth estrangedF
His conscience filled with dreadH
-
Now from his Maker's voice he fleesI
Which was before his joyJ
And thinks to hide amidst the treesI
From an All seeing eyeK
-
Compelled to answer to his nameL
With stubbornness and prideM
He cast on God himself the blameL
Nor once for mercy criedM
-
But grace unasked his heart subduedN
And all his guilt forgaveO
By faith the promised seed he viewedN
And felt his pow'r to saveO
-
Thus we ourselves would justifyK
Though we the Law transgressP
Like him unable to denyK
Unwilling to confessP
-
But when by faith the sinner seesI
A pardon bought with bloodQ
Then he forsakes his foolish pleasI
And gladly turns to GodR
