With Satan my accuser nearA
My spirit trembled when I sawB
The Lord in majesty appearA
And heart the language of the lawB
-
In vain I wish'd and strove to hideC
The tatter'd filthy rags I woreD
While my fierce foe insulting cry'dC
See what you trusted in beforeD
-
Struck dumb and left without a pleaE
I heard my gracious Saviour sayF
Know Satan I this sinner freeE
I died to take his sin awayF
-
This is a brand which I in loveG
To save from wrath and sin designH
In vain thy accusations proveI
I answer all and call him mineH
-
At his rebuke the tempter fledC
Then he remov'd my filthy dressJ
Poor sinner take this robe he saidC
It is thy Saviour's rightousnessJ
-
And see a crown of life prepar'dC
That I might thus my head adornK
I thought no shame or suff'ring hardC
But wore for thee a crown of thornK
-
O how I heard these gracious wordsJ
They broke and heal'd my heart at onceJ
Constrained me to become the Lord'sJ
And all my idol gods renounceJ
-
Now Satan thou hast lost thy aimL
Against this brand thy threats are vainM
JESUS has pluck'd it from the flameL
And who shall put it in againN
