The Warrior Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFGEFG

He wrought in poverty the dull grey daysA
But with the night his little lamp lit roomB
Was bright with battle flame or through a hazeA
Of smoke that stung his eyes he heard the boomB
Of Bluecher's guns he shared Almeida's scarsC
And from the close packed deck about to dieD
Looked up and saw the Birkenhead 's tall sparsC
Weave wavering lines across the Southern skyD
-
Or in the stifling 'tween decks row on rowE
At Aboukir saw how the dead men layF
Charged with the fiercest in Busaco's strifeG
Brave dreams are his the flick'ring lamp burns lowE
Yet couraged for the battles of the dayF
He goes to stand full face to face with lifeG
