The Oldest Drama Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDE FGFH DADA

It fell on a day that he went out to his father to the reapersA
And he said unto his father My head my head And he said to a ladB
Carry him to his mother And he sat on her knees till noonC
and then died And she went up and laid him on the bedD
And shut the door upon him and went outE
-
-
Immortal story that no mother's heartF
Ev'n yet can read nor feel the biting painG
That rent her soul Immortal not by artF
Which makes a long past sorrow sting againH
-
Like grief of yesterday but since it saidD
In simplest word the truth which all may seeA
Where any mother sobs above her deadD
And plays anew the silent tragedyA
