The Anxious Dead Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFEG HIHI DJDJ

O guns fall silent till the dead men hearA
Above their heads the legions pressing onB
These fought their fight in time of bitter fearC
And died not knowing how the day had goneD
-
O flashing muzzles pause and let them seeE
The coming dawn that streaks the sky afarF
Then let your mighty chorus witness beE
To them and Caesar that we still make warG
-
Tell them O guns that we have heard their callH
That we have sworn and will not turn asideI
That we will onward till we win or fallH
That we will keep the faith for which they diedI
-
Bid them be patient and some day anonD
They shall feel earth enwrapt in silence deepJ
Shall greet in wonderment the quiet dawnD
And in content may turn them to their sleepJ
