Isandlwana Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CBCBDDDB EBEBAAAB EBEBFFFB ABAB

Scarlet coats and crash o' the bandA
The grey of a pauper's gownB
A soldier's grave in ZululandA
And a woman in Brecon TownB
-
My little lad for a soldier boyC
Mothers o' Brecon TownB
My eyes for tears and his for joyC
When he went from Brecon TownB
His for the flags and the gallant sightsD
His for the medals and his for the fightsD
And mine for the dreary rainy nightsD
At home in Brecon TownB
-
They say he's laid beneath a treeE
Come back to Brecon TownB
Shouldn't I know I was there to seeE
It's far to Brecon TownB
It's me that keeps it trim and drestA
With a briar there and a rose by his breastA
The English flowers he likes the bestA
That I bring from Brecon TownB
-
And I sit beside him him and meE
We're back to Brecon TownB
To talk of the things that used to beE
Grey ghosts of Brecon TownB
I know the look o' the land and skyF
And the bird that builds in the tree near byF
And times I hear the jackals cryF
And me in Brecon TownB
-
Golden grey on miles of sandA
The dawn comes creeping downB
It's day in far off ZululandA
And night in Brecon TownB
