Under The Stars Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHII JKJKLM NONOPQ RSRSTT UVUVWW XYXYOO

The breath of summer stirs the treesA
A thousand roses round me bloomB
Whose saffron petals give the breezeA
A wealth of exquisite perfumeB
As climbing high with tendrils boldC
They clothe the walls with cups of goldC
-
No sound disturbs the silence sweetD
The weary birds have sunk to restE
For where the snow and sunset meetD
The light is fading in the westE
And now the carking cares of dayF
Slip lightly from my heart awayF
-
The emptiness of social strifeG
The pettiness of human soulsH
The cheap frivolities of lifeG
The keen pursuit of paltry goalsH
How small they seem beneath the domeI
That shelters my Tyrolean homeI
-
A shining mote our tiny earthJ
No furrow leaves in shoreless spaceK
What is one brief existence worthJ
Which disappears and leaves no traceK
That silent star strewn vault survivesL
The dawns and dusks of countless livesM
-
Why grieve dear heart Oblivion deepN
Will soon enshroud both friend and foeO
And those who laugh and those who weepN
Must join the hosts of long agoO
Whose transient hours of smiles and tearsP
Make up earth's wilderness of yearsQ
-
The sunset's glowing embers dieR
The snow peaks lose their crimson hueS
Through deepening shades the ruddy skyR
Burns slowly down to darkest blueS
Wherein a million worlds of lightT
Announce the coming of the nightT
-
I gaze and slowly my despairU
At human wretchedness and crimeV
Gives place to hopes and visions fairU
So much may be evolved by timeV
So much may yet men's souls surpriseW
Beneath the splendor of God's skiesW
-
Some day somewhere in realms afarX
His light may make all problems plainY
And justice on some happier starX
May recompense this planet's painY
And earth's bleak Golgothas of woeO
Grow lovely in life's afterglowO
