To Sleep And To Forget Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABC DDDDC AEAEC FGFGCC

To sleep and to forget O blessed guerdonA
The day is waning and the night draws nearB
My failing heart grows weary of its burdenA
Why should I therefore hesitate or fearB
To sleep and to forgetC
-
Though bright my skies with transient gleams of gladnessD
And sweet the breath of many a summer seaD
Yet under all a haunting note of sadnessD
Forever lures me in its minor keyD
To sleep and to forgetC
-
Of petty souls whose joy is defamationA
Of malice envy cruelty and greedE
Each day supplies its sickening revelationA
And makes imperative my spirit's needE
To sleep and to forgetC
-
Let others bravely plan for death's to morrowF
And crave fresh progress toward a higher goalG
Appalled by Earth's long tragedy of sorrowF
I humbly ask one favor for my soulG
When this life's sun is setC
To sleep and to forgetC
