The Wanderer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DBDBEE FGFGHI JGJGKK LMLMHH

Wandering minstrel at my gateA
Shivering in the winter gloamingB
How appalling seems your fateA
Destined to be always roamingB
Singing for a bit of breadC
And a shelter for your headC
-
Your sweet voice is all you ownD
Save the poor thin clothes you're wearingB
And you are not quite aloneD
For a dog your crust is sharingB
Yet o'er many a weary mileE
You have brought a song and smileE
-
I who have abundant landF
Home with comforts beyond measureG
Gardens loggias and a strandF
Where a boat awaits my pleasureG
Wonder what would be your storyH
Were I tramp and you signoreI
-
Would you weary of controlJ
Long to slip your gilded tetherG
And with Leo once more strollJ
Heedless of the wind and weatherG
You could hardly do that allK
Once ensconced behind my wallK
-
Every one must make a choiceL
Life is based on compensationM
You have nothing but your voiceL
I have more but more vexationM
Minstrel you at least are freeH
Give your smile to slaves like meH
