Retirement Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDEEFF GGHHII JJKKLL MMFFAA

Spirit of solitude silence and restA
Take me once more like a child to your breastA
Weary of worldliness turmoil and hateB
Welcome me back if it be not too lateB
Back to the realm of ideals and dreamsC
Hush of the forest and cadence of streamsC
-
What have I found in life's whirlpool of hasteD
Pitiful poverty limitless wasteD
Sad disillusionments losses of friendsE
Treacherous methods for fraudulent endsE
Idle frivolity senseless displayF
Youth without reverence faith in decayF
-
Gladly I turn from the roar of the crowdG
Hand of the beggar and purse of the proudG
Gladly go back to the humming of beesH
Carols of birds and the whisper of treesH
Gladly dispense with the voices of menI
Thankful to hear only Nature againI
-
Out from the mob with its furious paceJ
Into the cool quiet reaches of spaceJ
Rid of Society's glittering chainsK
Fleeing a prison and finding the plainsK
Far from the clangor of murderous carsL
Losing the limelight but gaining the starsL
-
Others may live in the turbulent throngM
Others may struggle to rectify wrongM
Strive with the strenuous laugh with the gayF
I too have striven and laughed in my dayF
But of life's blessings I crave now the bestA
Freedom for solitude silence and restA
