Out Of The Ranks Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGFH AIAJ KLKL MNMN OPOP MAMA

From the bitter fight I have made my wayA
To the peaceful crest of a lonely hillB
But the noise and heat of the deadly frayA
And the smart of wounds are with me stillB
-
No recreant I to a noble causeC
Nor traitor base to a leader boldD
'Twas a fight where he won most applauseE
Who captured most of his neighbor's goldD
-
Where the wounded crawled away to dieF
Or hopeless ate their bread with tearsG
And the only cries that rent the skyF
Were the shouts of frenzied financiersH
-
Alas for the prematurely grayA
Who struggle there through joyless livesI
To win the means of more displayA
For thankless children thoughtless wivesJ
-
Alas for those whose spirits yearnK
For leisure books and sunlit fieldsL
Who yet can never pause to learnK
The joy that a life of culture yieldsL
-
Still sway the mad crowds to and froM
I hear their groans and panting breathN
The hideous impacts blow on blowM
The moans of those who are crushed to deathN
-
None stoop to lift up those who fallO
A thousand leap for a vacant placeP
Thrust weaker thousands to the wallO
And trample many an upturned faceP
-
But I however the fight may goM
Have turned my back on the sordid frayA
To face the tranquil sunset glowM
And hope for the dawn of a better dayA
