One More Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLML NONP

With a smile and a kiss he went awayA
At the gate he turned and waved his handB
Then plunged once more in the sordid frayA
Whose strain she could not understandB
-
She really thought that she loved him wellC
But she loved herself and children moreD
And realized only when he fellC
What all his friends had known beforeD
-
He had always hid his own distressE
And answered us with a brave Not yetF
For boys must play and girls must dressE
As do their mates in the social setF
-
At least she claimed that this was soG
And he too dearly loved them allH
To spoil their place in the passing showG
And so rode on for a fatal fallH
-
He had earned enough for a simple lifeI
If only they a word had saidJ
So weary was he of the strifeI
But they were dumb and he is deadJ
-
Yes he is gone and they are hereK
And now the purse he died to fillL
Will keep them well for many a yearM
Of course submissive to God's willL
-
One victim more in the cruel raceN
With rivals he himself despisedO
For children who can ne'er replaceN
The father whom they sacrificedP
