In Tenebris Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

All the lights have been extinguishedA
In my closely curtained roomB
Nothing now can be distinguishedA
In the all pervading gloomB
And through darkness so alluringC
I would float away to sleepD
Like a boat that slips its mooringC
And moves gently toward the deepD
-
How delightful this seclusionE
From the garish light of dayF
All its turmoil and confusionE
Pushed a little while awayF
Neither men nor things shall try meG
Till to morrow brings its lightH
Let my cares go drifting by meG
I'll not think of them to nightH
-
Social cant and empty phrasesI
Base returns for kindness shownJ
Envy's serpent smile and praisesI
Which convey for bread a stoneJ
What a joy to have rejectedK
All such griefs of evil bornL
What a boon to feel protectedM
From their advent until mornL
-
Moon and stars without are gleamingC
Over snow capped peaks sublimeN
But to night I'll give to dreamingC
Nor esteem it wasted timeN
Nay through darkness so alluringC
I will float away to sleepD
Like a boat that slips its mooringC
And moves gently toward the deepD
