Beside my garden's ivied wallA
Enwreathed in vines of gold and greenB
I stand as evening shadows fallA
And marvel at the matchless sceneB
While wavelets make with rhythmic beatC
Perpetual music at my feetC

The year grows old yet on the breezeD
Still floats the perfume of the roseE
Still gleams the gold of orange treesD
Regardless of the Alpine snowsE
For while above Frost reigns as kingF
Below prevails the warmth of SpringF

In Tremezzina's sheltered bayG
The wintry storms forget to raveH
Without the white caps and the sprayG
Within a shore with scarce a waveH
A favored spot where tempests ceaseI
And Heaven whispers Here is PeaceI

Across the water's purple bloomJ
Bellagio bathed in sunset lightK
Surmounts the twilight's gathering gloomJ
With glistening walls of pink and whiteK
The wraith of some celestial strandL
The fringe of an enchanted landL

My sweet voiced fountain softly singsM
Its good night lyric to the lakeN
A skiff glides by on slender wingsM
With scarce a ripple in its wakeN
And pleasure boats their canvas furledL
Float idly in an ideal worldL

The swan like steamers come and goO
The ruffled water finds its restL
The snow peaks catch a ruddy glowO
From crimsoned cloudlets in the westL
And trembling on the tranquil airP
Steals forth the vesper call to prayerP

Oh peerless strand I yearn no moreQ
To mingle with the maddened throngR
Enough for me this wave kissed shoreQ
The vesper bell the fountain's songR
The sunlit sail the Alpine glowO
And storied towers of long agoO

Between me and the world's unrestL
The lake's broad leagues of water lieS
Above my wave protected nestL
Serenely bends a cloudless skyS
And homeward from life's stormy seaT
The dreams of youth come back to meT
