Autonomy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLKL MNMN

Stand forth my soul and take thine ownA
Though all should blame thee have no fearB
Self poised and steadfast dare aloneA
Thy self elected course to steerB
-
Before thee lies the open seaC
Beyond it is the wished for shoreD
The route that seemeth best to theeC
Select and hesitate no moreD
-
For he who lives the timorous slaveE
Of social plaudits or disdainF
Drags feebly to a nameless graveE
A craven's ever lengthening chainF
-
Are thy plans noble just and fairG
Pursue them bravely to the endH
Nor pause to question or to careG
What says thy foe or what thy friendH
-
Succeed and thou shalt surely findI
That those who longed to see thee failJ
And lingering hopelessly behindI
Spat venom on thine upward trailJ
-
Shall run to reach thee on thy pathK
To grasp thy hand and say 'Twas wellL
Or distant gnaw their lips in wrathK
Their envious hearts a living hellL
-
Forever flint like set thy faceM
Against the loss of self controlN
Compel the world to keep its placeM
Be thou the captain of thy soulN
