A May Monody Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABC ADADC AEAEC AFAFC AGAHC AIAIC JAKAC

Beside my opened window paneA
Each morning in this month of MayB
A blackbird sings in dulcet strainA
Two liquid notes which seem to sayB
Come again Come againC
-
Alike in sunshine and in rainA
Now loud and clear now soft and lowD
He warbles forth the same refrainA
Which haunts me with its hint of woeD
Come again Come againC
-
What bird whose absence gives him painA
Doth he thus tenderly recallE
What longed for joy would he regainA
By those two words which rise and fallE
Come again Come againC
-
Sometimes when I too long have lainA
And listened to his plaintive airF
An impulse I cannot restrainA
Hath moved me too to breathe that prayerF
Come again Come againC
-
O vanished youth when faith was plainA
When hopes were high and manhood's yearsG
Showed dazzling summits to attainA
O days ere eyes grew dim with tearsH
Come again Come againC
-
O friends whose memory leaves no stainA
O dearly loved and early lostI
Do you your love for me retainA
Beyond the silent sea you crossedI
Come again Come againC
-
Alas sweet bird all life moves onJ
The seed becomes the ripened grainA
And what is past is gone is goneK
Cease calling therefore 'tis in vainA
Come again Come againC
