Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God StA
Matthew vB
-
-
Bless'd are the pure in heartC
For they shall see our GodD
The secret of the Lord is theirsE
Their soul is Christ's abodeF
-
Might mortal thought presumeG
To guess an angel's layH
Such are the notes that echo throughI
The courts of Heaven to dayH
-
Such the triumphal hymnsJ
On Sion's Prince that waitK
In high procession passing onL
Towards His temple gateK
-
Give ear ye kings bow downM
Ye rulers of the earthN
This this is He your Priest by graceO
Your God and King by birthN
-
No pomp of earthly guardsP
Attends with sword and spearQ
And all defying dauntless lookR
Their monarch's way to clearQ
-
Yet are there more with HimS
Than all that are with youI
The armies of the highest HeavenT
All righteous good and trueI
-
Spotless their robes and pureU
Dipped in the sea of lightV
That hides the unapproached shrineW
From men's and angels' sightV
-
His throne thy bosom blestX
O mother undefiledX
That throne if aught beneath the skiesY
Beseems the sinless childX
-
Lost in high thoughts whose sonT
The wondrous Babe might proveZ
Her guileless husband walks besideX
Bearing the hallowed doveA2
-
Meet emblem of His vowB2
Who on this happy dayX
His dove like soul best sacrificeC2
Did on God's altar layX
-
But who is he by yearsD2
Bowed but erect in heartX
Whose prayers are struggling with his tearsE
Lord let me now departX
-
Now hath Thy servant seenE2
Thy saving health O LordX
'Tis time that I depart in peaceF2
According to Thy wordX
-
Yet swells this pomp one moreG2
Comes forth to bless her GodX
Full fourscore years meek widow sheB
Her heaven ward way hath trothH2
-
She who to earthly joysI2
So long had given farewellJ2
Now sees unlooked for Heaven on earthN
Christ in His IsraelK2
-
Wide open from that hourL2
The temple gates are setX
And still the saints rejoicing thereM2
The holy Child have metX
-
Now count His train to dayX
Auth who may meet Him learnN2
Him child like sires meek maidens findX
Where pride can nought discernN2
-
Still to the lowly soulO2
He doth Himself impartX
And for His cradle and His throneP2
Chooseth the pure in heartX
