After this the congregation shall be desired secretly inA
their prayers to make their humble supplications to God forB
all these things for the which prayers there shall beC
silence kept for a spaceD
-
After which shall be sung or said by the Bishop the personsE
to be ordained Priests all kneeling Veni CreatorF
Spiritus Rubric in the Office for Ordering of PriestsG
-
-
'Twas silence in Thy temple LordH
When slowly through the hallowed airI
The spreading cloud of incense soaredH
Charged with the breath of Israel's prayerI
-
'Twas silence round Thy throne on highJ
When the last wondrous seal unclosedH
And in this portals of the skyJ
Thine armies awfully reposedH
-
And this deep pause that o'er us nowK
Is hovering comes it not of TheeC
Is it not like a mother's vowK
When with her darling on her kneeC
-
She weighs and numbers o'er and o'erF
Love's treasure hid in her fond breastH
To cull from that exhaustless storeB
The dearest blessing and the bestH
-
And where shall mother's bosom findH
With all its deep love learned skillL
A prayer so sweetly to her mindH
As in this sacred hour and stillL
-
Is wafted from the white robed choirF
Ere yet the pure high breathed layM
Come Holy Ghost our souls inspireN
Rise floating on its dove like wayM
-
And when it comes so deep and clearO
The strain so soft the melting fallP
It seems not to th' entranced earQ
Less than Thine own heart cheering callP
-
Spirit of Christ Thine earnest givenR
That these our prayers are heard and theyM
Who grasp this hour the sword of HeavenR
Shall feel Thee on their weary wayM
-
Oft as at morn or soothing eveS
Over the Holy Fount they leanT
Their fading garland freshly weaveS
Or fan them with Thine airs sereneT
-
Spirit of Light and Truth to TheeC
We trust them in that musing hourF
Till they with open heart and freeC
Teach all Thy word in all its powerF
-
When foemen watch their tents by nightH
And mists hang wide o'er moor and fellU
Spirit of Counsel and of MightH
Their pastoral warfare guide Thou wellU
-
And oh when worn and tired they sighJ
With that more fearful war withinA
When Passion's storms are loud and highJ
And brooding o'er remembered sinA
-
The heart dies down oh mightiest thenV
Come ever true come ever nearO
And wake their slumbering love againV
Spirit of God's most holy FearO
