Rhyme Scheme: ABC DEDE CFCG DHDH IJIJ KLKL MNMN OCPC QRQR STST UVUV WXWXWhy stand ye gazing up into Heaven this same Jesus which | A |
is taken up from you into Heaven shall so come in like | B |
manner as ye have seen Him go into Heaven Acts i | C |
- | |
- | |
Soft cloud that while the breeze of May | D |
Chants her glad matins in the leafy arch | E |
Draw'st thy bright veil across the heavenly way | D |
Meet pavement for an angel's glorious march | E |
- | |
My soul is envious of mine eye | C |
That it should soar and glide with thee so fast | F |
The while my grovelling thoughts half buried lie | C |
Or lawless roam around this earthly waste | G |
- | |
Chains of my heart avaunt I say | D |
I will arise and in the strength of love | H |
Pursue the bright track ere it fade away | D |
My Saviour's pathway to His home above | H |
- | |
Sure when I reach the point where earth | I |
Melts into nothing from th' uncumbered sight | J |
Heaven will o'ercome th' attraction of my birth | I |
And I shall sink in yonder sea of light | J |
- | |
Till resting by th' incarnate LORD | K |
Once bleeding now triumphant for my sake | L |
I mark Him how by seraph hosts adored | K |
He to earth's lowest cares is still awake | L |
- | |
The sun and every vassal star | M |
All space beyond the soar of angel wings | N |
Wait on His word and yet He stays His car | M |
For every sigh a contrite suppliant brings | N |
- | |
He listens to the silent tear | O |
For all the anthems of the boundless sky | C |
And shall our dreams of music bar our ear | P |
To His soul piercing voice for ever nigh | C |
- | |
Nay gracious Saviour but as now | Q |
Our thoughts have traced Thee to Thy glory throne | R |
So help us evermore with thee to bow | Q |
Where human sorrow breathes her lowly moan | R |
- | |
We must not stand to gaze too long | S |
Though on unfolding Heaven our gaze we bend | T |
Where lost behind the bright angelic throng | S |
We see CHRIST'S entering triumph slow ascend | T |
- | |
No fear but we shall soon behold | U |
Faster than now it fades that gleam revive | V |
When issuing from his cloud of fiery gold | U |
Our wasted frames feel the true sun and live | V |
- | |
Then shall we see Thee as Thou art | W |
For ever fixed in no unfruitful gaze | X |
But such as lifts the new created heart | W |
Age after age in worthier love and praise | X |
