Student-song Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDED AFAFGDED AHAHIDED

When Youth's warm heart beats high my friendA
And Youth's blue sky is brightB
And shines in Youth's clear eye my friendA
Love's early dawning lightB
Let the free soul spurn care's controlC
And while the glad days shineD
We'll use their beams for Youth's gay dreamsE
Of Love and Song and WineD
-
Let not the bigot's frown my friendA
O'ercast thy brow with gloomF
For Autumn's sober brown my friendA
Shall follow Summer's bloomF
Let smiles and sighs and loving eyesG
In changeful beauty shineD
And shed their beams on Youth's gay dreamsE
Of Love and Song and WineD
-
For in the weary years my friendA
That stretched before us lieH
There'll be enough of tears my friendA
To dim the brightest eyeH
So let them wait and laugh at fateI
While Youth's sweet moments shineD
Till memory gleams with golden dreamsE
Of Love and Song and WineD
