Sinai And Calvary Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDEF GHIHIAGA JKGKELAL MAGANOPO GFGFGQGQ

There are two mountains hallowedA
By majesty sublimeB
Which rear their crests unconqueredA
Above the floods of TimeB
Uncounted generationsC
Have gazed on them with aweD
The mountain of the GospelE
The mountain of the LawF
-
From Sinai's cloud of darknessG
The vivid lightnings playH
They serve the God of vengeanceI
The Lord who shall repayH
Each fault must bring its penanceI
Each sin the avenging bladeA
For God upholds in justiceG
The laws that He hath madeA
-
But Calvary stands to ransomJ
The earth from utter lossK
In shade than light more gloriousG
The shadow of the CrossK
To heal a sick world's troubleE
To soothe its woe and painL
On Calvary's sacred summitA
The Paschal Lamb was slainL
-
The boundless might of HeavenM
Its law in mercy furledA
As once the bow of promiseG
O'erarched a drowning worldA
The Law said As you keep meN
It shall be done to youO
But Calvary prays Forgive themP
They know not what they doO
-
Almighty God direct usG
To keep Thy perfect LawF
O blessed Saviour help usG
Nearer to Thee to drawF
Let Sinai's thunders aid usG
To guard our feet from sinQ
And Calvary's light inspire usG
The love of God to winQ
