Valuation Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFG HIJKI

THE old Squire said as he stood by his gateA
And his neighbor the Deacon went byB
'In spite of my bank stock and real estateA
You are better off Deacon than IB
-
'We're both growing old and the end's drawing nearC
You have less of this world to resignD
But in Heaven's appraisal your assets I fearC
Will reckon up greater than mineD
-
'They say I am rich but I'm feeling so poorE
I wish I could swap with you evenF
The pounds I have lived for and laid up in storeG
For the shillings and pence you have given '-
-
'Well Squire ' said the Deacon with shrewdH
common senseI
While his eye had a twinkle of funJ
'Let your pounds take the way of my shillingsK
and penceI
And the thing can be easily done '-
