To Ronge Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCABDEDEFFGGHHIIJJ KKLMHMNNOPO

Strike home strong hearted man Down to the rootA
Of old oppression sink the Saxon steelB
Thy work is to hew down In God's name thenC
Put nerve into thy task Let other menC
Plant as they may that better tree whose fruitA
The wounded bosom of the Church shall healB
Be thou the image breaker Let thy blowsD
Fall heavy as the Suabian's iron handE
On crown or crosier which shall interposeD
Between thee and the weal of FatherlandE
Leave creeds to closet idlers First of allF
Shake thou all German dream land with the fallF
Of that accursed tree whose evil trunkG
Was spared of old by Erfurt's stalwart monkG
Fight not with ghosts and shadows Let us hearH
The snap of chain links Let our gladdened earH
Catch the pale prisoner's welcome as the lightI
Follows thy axe stroke through his cell of nightI
Be faithful to both worlds nor think to feedJ
Earth's starving millions with the husks of creedJ
Servant of Him whose mission high and holyK
Was to the wronged the sorrowing and the lowlyK
Thrust not his Eden promise from our sphereL
Distant and dim beyond the blue sky's spanM
Like him of Patmos see it now and hereH
The New Jerusalem comes down to manM
Be warned by Luther's error Nor like himN
When the roused Teuton dashes from his limbN
The rusted chain of ages help to bindO
His hands for whom thou claim'st the freedom ofP
the mindO
