The Robin Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH EIJ KLKL MNM

MY old Welsh neighbor over the wayA
Crept slowly out in the sun of springB
Pushed from her ears the locks of grayA
And listened to hear the robin singB
-
Her grandson playing at marbles stoppedC
And cruel in sport as boys will beD
Tossed a stone at the bird who hoppedC
From bough to bough in the apple treeD
-
'Nay ' said the grandmother 'have you not heardE
My poor bad boy of the fiery pitF
And how drop by drop this merciful birdE
Carries the water that quenches itF
-
'He brings cool dew in his little billG
And lets it fall on the souls of sinH
You can see the mark on his red breast stillG
Of fires that scorch as he drops it inH
-
'My poor Bron rhuddyn my breast burned birdE
Singing so sweetly from limb to limbI
Very dear to the heart of Our LordJ
Is he who pities the lost like Him '-
-
'Amen ' I said to the beautiful mythK
'Sing bird of God in my heart as wellL
Each good thought is a drop wherewithK
To cool and lessen the fires of hellL
-
'Prayers of love like rain drops fallM
Tears of pity are cooling dewN
And dear to the heart of Our Lord are allM
Who suffer like Him in the good they do '-
