Rhyme Scheme: AAA BBC DDD EEE FFF AGA HHH III HHH JJJ FFF KKK LA

Is it the palm the cocoa palmA
On the Indian Sea by the isles of balmA
Or is it a ship in the breezeless calmA
-
A ship whose keel is of palm beneathB
Whose ribs of palm have a palm bark sheathB
And a rudder of palm it steereth withC
-
Branches of palm are its spars and railsD
Fibres of palm are its woven sailsD
And the rope is of palm that idly trailsD
-
What does the good ship bear so wellE
The cocoa nut with its stony shellE
And the milky sap of its inner cellE
-
What are its jars so smooth and fineF
But hollowed nuts filled with oil and wineF
And the cabbage that ripens under the LineF
-
Who smokes his nargileh cool and calmA
The master whose cunning and skill could charmG
Cargo and ship from the bounteous palmA
-
In the cabin he sits on a palm mat softH
From a beaker of palm his drink is quaffedH
And a palm thatch shields from the sun aloftH
-
His dress is woven of palmy strandsI
And he holds a palm leaf scroll in his handsI
Traced with the Prophet's wise commandsI
-
The turban folded about his headH
Was daintily wrought of the palm leaf braidH
And the fan that cools him of palm was madeH
-
Of threads of palm was the carpet spunJ
Whereon he kneels when the day is doneJ
And the foreheads of Islam are bowed as oneJ
-
To him the palm is a gift divineF
Wherein all uses of man combineF
House and raiment and food and wineF
-
And in the hour of his great releaseK
His need of the palm shall only ceaseK
With the shroud wherein he lieth in peaceK
-
'Allah il Allah ' he sings his psalmL
On the Indian Sea by the isles of balmA
'Thanks to Allah who gives the palm '-
