The Moral Warfare Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDEEFFGGHIJJKKLL MMII

WHEN Freedom on her natal dayA
Within her war rocked cradle layA
An iron race around her stoodB
Baptized her infant brow in bloodC
And through the storm which round her sweptD
Their constant ward and watching keptD
Then where our quiet herds reposeE
The roar of baleful battle roseE
And brethren of a common tongueF
To mortal strife as tigers sprungF
And every gift on Freedom's shrineG
Was man for beast and blood for wineG
Our fathers to their graves have goneH
Their strife is past their triumph wonI
But sterner trials wait the raceJ
Which rises in their honored placeJ
A moral warfare with the crimeK
And folly of an evil timeK
So let it be In God's own mightL
We gird us for the coming fightL
And strong in Him whose cause is oursM
In conflict with unholy powersM
We grasp the weapons He has givenI
The Light and Truth and Love of HeavenI
