THE KANSAS EMIGRANTSA
WE cross the prairie as of oldB
The pilgrims crossed the seaC
To make the West as they the EastD
The homestead of the freeC
We go to rear a wall of menE
On Freedom's southern lineF
And plant beside the cotton treeC
The rugged Northern pineF
We're flowing from our native hillsG
As our free rivers flowH
The blessing of our Mother landI
Is on us as we goH
We go to plant her common schoolsJ
On distant prairie swellsK
And give the Sabbaths of the wildL
The music of her bellsK
Upbearing like the Ark of oldB
The Bible in our vanM
We go to test the truth of GodN
Against the fraud of manM
No pause nor rest save where the streamsO
That feed the Kansas runP
Save where our Pilgrim gonfalonP
Shall flout the setting sunP
We'll tread the prairie as of oldB
Our fathers sailed the seaC
And make the West as they the EastD
The homestead of the freeC
