The Emancipation Group Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAAABCBCDEDEFGFGAHAH IJIJKLKL

AMIDST thy sacred effigiesA
Of old renown give placeA
O city Freedom loved to hisA
Whose hand unchained a raceA
Take the worn frame that rested notB
Save in a martyr's graveC
The care lined face that none forgotB
Bent to the kneeling slaveC
Let man be free The mighty wordD
He spake was not his ownE
An impulse from the Highest stirredD
These chiselled lips aloneE
The cloudy sign the fiery guideF
Along his pathway ranG
And Nature through his voice deniedF
The ownership of manG
We rest in peace where these sad eyesA
Saw peril strife and painH
His was the nation's sacrificeA
And ours the priceless gainH
O symbol of God's will on earthI
As it is done aboveJ
Bear witness to the cost and worthI
Of justice and of loveJ
Stand in thy place and testifyK
To coming ages longL
That truth is stronger than a lieK
And righteousness than wrongL
