The Disenthralled Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDEFGHIJBKBLMNM OPQPICRCBSTSUVBVBKVK

HE had bowed down to drunkennessA
An abject worshipperB
The pride of manhood's pulse had grownC
Too faint and cold to stirB
And he had given his spirit upD
To the unbless d thrallE
And bowing to the poison cupD
He gloried in his fallE
There came a change the cloud rolled offF
And light fell on his brainG
And like the passing of a dreamH
That cometh not againI
The shadow of the spirit fledJ
He saw the gulf beforeB
He shuddered at the waste behindK
And was a man once moreB
He shook the serpent folds awayL
That gathered round his heartM
As shakes the swaying forest oakN
Its poison vine apartM
He stood erect returning prideO
Grew terrible withinP
And conscience sat in judgment onQ
His most familiar sinP
The light of Intellect againI
Along his pathway shoneC
And Reason like a monarch satR
Upon his olden throneC
The honored and the wise once moreB
Within his presence cameS
And lingered oft on lovely lipsT
His once forbidden nameS
There may be glory in the mightU
That treadeth nations downV
Wreaths for the crimson conquerorB
Pride for the kingly crownV
But nobler is that triumph hourB
The disenthralled shall findK
When evil passion boweth downV
Unto the Godlike mindK
