The Birthday Wreath Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCAAC DDECCE FFGHHG EEIJJK LLMEEM

Blossom and greenness making allA
The winter birthday tropicalB
And the plain Quaker parlors gayC
Have gone from bracket stand and wallA
We saw them fade and droop and fallA
And laid them tenderly awayC
-
White virgin lilies mignonetteD
Blown rose and pink and violetD
A breath of fragrance passing byE
Visions of beauty and decayC
Colors and shapes that could not stayC
The fairest sweetest first to dieE
-
But still this rustic wreath of mineF
Of acorned oak and needled pineF
And lighter growths of forest landsG
Woven and wound with careful painsH
And tender thoughts and prayers remainsH
As when it dropped from love's dear handsG
-
And not unfitly garlandedE
Is he who country born and bredE
Welcomes the sylvan ring which givesI
A feeling of old summer daysJ
The wild delight of woodland waysJ
The glory of the autumn leavesK
-
And if the flowery meed of songL
To other bards may well belongL
Be his who from the farm field spokeM
A word for Freedom when her needE
Was not of dulcimer and reedE
This Isthmian wreath of pine and oakM
