Samuel J. Tilden Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC DEDE FGHG IJIJ KEKE

GREYSTONE AUGA
-
Once more O all adjusting DeathB
The nation's Pantheon opens wideC
Once more a common sorrow saithB
A strong wise man has diedC
-
Faults doubtless had he Had we notD
Our own to question and asperseE
The worth we doubted or forgotD
Until beside his hearseE
-
Ambitious cautious yet the manF
To strike down fraud with resolute handG
A patriot if a partisanH
He loved his native landG
-
So let the mourning bells be rungI
The banner droop its folds half wayJ
And while the public pen and tongueI
Their fitting tribute payJ
-
Shall we not vow above his bierK
To set our feet on party liesE
And wound no more a living earK
With words that Death deniesE
