The autumn time has comeA
On woods that dream of bloomB
And over purpling vinesC
The low sun fainter shinesC
-
The aster flower is failingD
The hazel's gold is palingD
Yet overhead more nearE
The eternal stars appearE
-
And present gratitudeF
Insures the future's goodG
And for the things I seeH
I trust the things to beH
-
That in the paths untrodG
And the long days of GodG
My feet shall still be ledG
My heart be comfortedG
-
O living friends who love meH
O dear ones gone above meH
Careless of other fameI
I leave to you my nameI
-
Hide it from idle praisesJ
Save it from evil phrasesJ
Why when dear lips that spake itG
Are dumb should strangers wake itG
-
Let the thick curtain fallK
I better know than allK
How little I have gainedG
How vast the unattainedG
-
Not by the page word paintedG
Let life be banned or saintedG
Deeper than written scrollL
The colors of the soulL
-
Sweeter than any sungD
My songs that found no tongueD
Nobler than any factG
My wish that failed of actG
-
Others shall sing the songD
Others shall right the wrongD
Finish what I beginM
And all I fail of winM
-
What matter I or theyN
Mine or another's dayN
So the right word be saidG
And life the sweeter madeG
-
Hail to the coming singersO
Hail to the brave light bringersO
Forward I reach and shareP
All that they sing and dareP
-
The airs of heaven blow o'er meH
A glory shines before meH
Of what mankind shall beH
Pure generous brave and freeH
-
A dream of man and womanQ
Diviner but still humanQ
Solving the riddle oldG
Shaping the Age of GoldG
-
The love of God and neighborR
An equal handed laborR
The richer life where beautyH
Walks hand in hand with dutyH
-
Ring bells in unreared steeplesO
The joy of unborn peoplesO
Sound trumpets far off blownS
Your triumph is my ownS
-
Parcel and part of allK
I keep the festivalT
Fore reach the good to beH
And share the victoryH
-
I feel the earth move sunwardG
I join the great march onwardG
And take by faith while livingD
My freehold of thanksgivingD
