Lines From A Letter To A Young Clerical Friend Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDEDFGFGHIHIJKJK DLDLMGMG

A STRENGTH Thy service cannot tireA
A faith which doubt can never dimB
A heart of love a lip of fireA
O Freedom's God be Thou to himB
Speak through him words of power and fearC
As through Thy prophet bards of oldD
And let a scornful people hearE
Once more Thy Sinai thunders rolledD
For lying lips Thy blessing seekF
And hands of blood are raised to TheeG
And on Thy children crushed and weakF
The oppressor plants his kneeling kneeG
Let then O God Thy servant dareH
Thy truth in all its power to tellI
Unmask the priestly thieves and tearH
The Bible from the grasp of hellI
From hollow rite and narrow spanJ
Of law and sect by Thee releasedK
Oh teach him that the Christian manJ
Is holier than the Jewish priestK
Chase back the shadows gray and oldD
Of the dead ages from his wayL
And let his hopeful eyes beholdD
The dawn of Thy millennial dayL
That day when lettered limb and mindM
Shall know the truth which maketh freeG
And he alone who loves his kindM
Shall childlike claim the love of TheeG
