Italy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAAACDCCEFGFFHIJIIJ AKAAKLALLA

ACROSS the sea I heard the groansA
Of nations in the intervalsB
Of wind and wave Their blood and bonesA
Cried out in torture crushed by thronesA
And sucked by priestly cannibalsA
I dreamed of Freedom slowly gainedC
By martyr meekness patience faithD
And lo an athlete grimly stainedC
With corded muscles battle strainedC
Shouting it from the fields of deathE
I turn me awe struck from the sightF
Among the clamoring thousands muteG
I only know that God is rightF
And that the children of the lightF
Shall tread the darkness under footH
I know the pent fire heaves its crustI
That sultry skies the bolt will formJ
To smite them clear that Nature mustI
The balance of her powers adjustI
Though with the earthquake and the stormJ
God reigns and let the earth rejoiceA
I bow before His sterner planK
Dumb are the organs of my choiceA
He speaks in battle's stormy voiceA
His praise is in the wrath of manK
Yet surely as He lives the dayL
Of peace He promised shall be oursA
To fold the flags of war and layL
Its sword and spear to rust awayL
And sow its ghastly fields with flowersA
