In The Evil Days Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCBDEDDEFGFFGHIJHI HKHHKLMLLMNOPNQAHCCH KRKKRHHHHHSTSUT

The evil days have come the poorA
Are made a preyB
Bar up the hospitable doorC
Put out the fire lights point no moreC
The wanderer's wayB
For Pity now is crime the chainD
Which binds our StatesE
Is melted at her hearth in twainD
Is rusted by her tears' soft rainD
Close up her gatesE
Our Union like a glacier stirredF
By voice belowG
Or bell of kine or wing of birdF
A beggar's crust a kindly wordF
May overthrowG
Poor whispering tremblers yet we boastH
Our blood and nameI
Bursting its century bolted frostJ
Each gray cairn on the Northman's coastH
Cries out for shameI
Oh for the open firmamentH
The prairie freeK
The desert hillside cavern rentH
The Pawnee's lodge the Arab's tentH
The Bushman's treeK
Than web of Persian loom most rareL
Or soft divanM
Better the rough rock bleak and bareL
Or hollow tree which man may shareL
With suffering manM
I hear a voice Thus saith the LawN
Let Love be dumbO
Clasping her liberal hands in aweP
Let sweet lipped Charity withdrawN
From hearth and home 'Q
I hear another voice The poorA
Are thine to feedH
Turn not the outcast from thy doorC
Nor give to bonds and wrong once moreC
Whom God hath freedH
Dear Lord between that law and TheeK
No choice remainsR
Yet not untrue to man's decreeK
Though spurning its rewards is heK
Who bears its painsR
Not mine Sedition's trumpet blastH
And threatening wordH
I read the lesson of the PastH
That firm endurance wins at lastH
More than the swordH
O clear eyed Faith and Patience thouS
So calm and strongT
Lend strength to weakness teach us howS
The sleepless eyes of God look throughU
This night of wrongT
