A vine fringed river winding to its rest | G |
On the calm bosom of a stormless sea | H |
Bearing alike upon its placid breast | G |
With earthly flowers and heavenly' stars impressed | G |
The hues of time and of eternity | H |
Such are the pictures which the thought of thee | H |
O friend awakeneth charming the keen pain | I |
Of thy departure and our sense of loss | J |
Requiting with the fullness of thy gain | I |
Lo on the quiet grave thy life borne cross | J |
Dropped only at its side methinks doth shine | K |
Of thy beatitude the radiant sign | K |
No sob of grief no wild lament be there | L |
To break the Sabbath of the holy air | L |
But in their stead the silent breathing prayer | L |
Of hearts still waiting for a rest like thine | K |
O spirit redeemed Forgive us if henceforth | M |
