KLOSTER KEDAR EPHRATA PENNSYLVANIAA
-
SISTER MARIA CHRISTINA singsB
-
Wake sisters wake the day star shinesC
Above Ephrata's eastern pinesC
The dawn is breaking cool and calmD
Wake sisters wake to prayer and psalmE
-
Praised be the Lord for shade and lightF
For toil by day for rest by nightF
Praised be His name who deigns to blessG
Our Kedar of the wildernessH
-
Our refuge when the spoiler's handI
Was heavy on our native landI
And freedom to her children dueJ
The wolf and vulture only knewJ
-
We praised Him when to prison ledK
We owned Him when the stake blazed redK
We knew whatever might befallL
His love and power were over allL
-
He heard our prayers with outstretched armM
He led us forth from cruel harmM
Still wheresoe'er our steps were bentN
His cloud and fire before us wentN
-
The watch of faith and prayer He setO
We kept it then we keep it yetO
At midnight crow of cock or noonP
He cometh sure He cometh soonP
-
He comes to chasten not destroyQ
To purge the earth from sin's alloyQ
At last at last shall all confessG
His mercy as His righteousnessH
-
The dead shall live the sick be wholeR
The scarlet sin be white as woolS
No discord mar below aboveT
The music of eternal loveT
-
Sound welcome trump the last alarmM
Lord God of hosts make bare thine armM
Fulfil this day our long desireU
Make sweet and clean the world with fireU
-
Sweep flaming besom sweep from sightF
The lies of time be swift to smiteF
Sharp sword of God all idols downV
Genevan creed and Roman crownV
-
Quake earth through all thy zones till allL
The fanes of pride and priesteraft fallL
And lift thou up in place of themW
Thy gates of pearl JerusalemX
-
Lo rising from baptismal flameY
Transfigured glorious yet the sameY
Within the heavenly city's boundF
Our Kloster Kedar shall be foundF
-
He cometh soon at dawn or noonP
Or set of sun He cometh soonP
Our prayers shall meet Him on His wayZ
Wake sisters wake arise and prayZ
