Centennial Hymn Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBCCDD AEEFFGG AHHDDFF IBBGGJJ IKKIIBB ILLMMBB

IA
Our fathers' God from out whose handB
The centuries fall like grains of sandB
We meet to day united freeC
And loyal to our land and TheeC
To thank Thee for the era doneD
And trust Thee for the opening oneD
-
IIA
Here where of old by Thy designE
The fathers spake that word of ThineE
Whose echo is the glad refrainF
Of rended bolt and falling chainF
To grace our festal time from allG
The zones of earth our guests we callG
-
IIIA
Be with us while the New World greetsH
The Old World thronging all its streetsH
Unveiling all the triumphs wonD
By art or toil beneath the sunD
And unto common good ordainF
This rivalship of hand and brainF
-
IVI
Thou who hast here in concord furledB
The war flags of a gathered worldB
Beneath our Western skies fulfilG
The Orient's mission of good willG
And freighted with love's Golden FleeceJ
Send back its Argonauts of peaceJ
-
VI
For art and labor met in truceK
For beauty made the bride of useK
We thank Thee but withal we craveI
The austere virtues strong to saveI
The honor proof to place or goldB
The manhood never bought nor soldB
-
VII
Oh make Thou us through centuries longL
In peace secure in justice strongL
Around our gift of freedom drawM
The safeguards of Thy righteous lawM
And cast in some diviner mouldB
Let the new cycle shame the oldB
