Calef In Boston, 1692 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCEFGHGIJIJKLKL IMIEGNENOPOPQFQFCRCS

IN the solemn days of oldA
Two men met in Boston townB
One a tradesman frank and boldA
One a preacher of renownB
Cried the last in bitter toneC
'Poisoner of the wells of truthD
Satan's hireling thou hast sownC
With his tares the heart of youth 'E
Spake the simple tradesman thenF
'God be judge 'twixt thee and meG
All thou knowed of truth hath beenH
Once a lie to men like theeG
'Falsehoods which we spurn to dayI
Were the truths of long agoJ
Let the dead boughs fall awayI
Fresher shall the living growJ
'God is good and God is lightK
In this faith I rest secureL
Evil can but serve the rightK
Over all shall love endureL
'Of your spectral puppet playI
I have traced the cunning wiresM
Come what will I needs must sayI
God is true and ye are liars 'E
When the thought of man is freeG
Error fears its lightest tonesN
So the priest cried 'Sadducee 'E
And the people took up stonesN
In the ancient burying groundO
Side by side the twain now lieP
One with humble grassy moundO
One with marbles pale and highP
But the Lord hath blest the seedQ
Which that tradesman scattered thenF
And the preacher's spectral creedQ
Chills no more the blood of menF
Let us trust to one is knownC
Perfect love which casts out fearR
While the other's joys atoneC
For the wrong he suffered hereS
