Autumn Thoughts Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB C C DEDF GBHB AIAI

Gone hath the Spring with all its flowersA
And gone the Summer's pomp and showB
And Autumn in his leafless bowersA
Is waiting for the Winter's snowB
-
I said to Earth so cold and grayC
'An emblem of myself thou art '-
'Not so ' the Earth did seem to sayC
'For Spring shall warm my frozen heart '-
I soothe my wintry sleep with dreamsD
Of warmer sun and softer rainE
And wait to hear the sound of streamsD
And songs of merry birds againF
-
But thou from whom the Spring hath goneG
For whom the flowers no longer blowB
Who standest blighted and forlornH
Like Autumn waiting for the snowB
-
No hope is thine of sunnier hoursA
Thy Winter shall no more departI
No Spring revive thy wasted flowersA
Nor Summer warm thy frozen heartI
