After Election Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFGHHIIJJKK EELLMMNNOOPPQQRR

THE day's sharp strife is ended nowA
Our work is done God knoweth howA
As on the thronged unrestful townB
The patience of the moon looks downB
I wait to hear beside the wireC
The voices of its tongues of fireC
Slow doubtful faint they seem at firstD
Be strong my heart to know the worstD
Hark there the Alleghanies spokeE
That sound from lake and prairie brokeE
That sunset gun of triumph rentF
The silence of a continentG
That signal from Nebraska sprungH
This from Nevada's mountain tongueH
Is that thy answer strong and freeI
O loyal heart of TennesseeI
What strange glad voice is that which callsJ
From Wagner's grave and Sumter's wallsJ
From Mississippi's fountain headK
A sound as of the hisoh's treadK
There rustled freedom's Charter OakE
In that wild burst the Ozarks spokeE
Cheer answers cheer from rise to setL
Of sun We have a country yetL
The praise O God be thine aloneM
Thou givest not for bread a stoneM
Thou hast not led us through the nightN
To blind us with returning lightN
Not through the furnace have we passedO
To perish at its mouth at lastO
O night of peace thy flight restrainP
November's moon be slow to waneP
Shine on the freedman's cabin floorQ
On brows of prayer a blessing pourQ
And give with full assurance blestR
The weary heart of Freedom restR
