This sharp recoil is Evil undertrod | D |
Our time's unrest an angel sent of God | D |
Troubling with life the waters of the world | D |
Even as they list the winds of the Spirit blow | E |
To turn or break our century rusted vanes | F |
Sands shift and waste the rock alone remains | F |
Where led of Heaven the strong tides come and go | E |
And storm clouds rent by thunderbolt and wind | D |
Leave free of mist the permanent stars behind | D |

Both true and false seem shaken I will hold | D |
With newer light my reverence for the old | D |
And calmly wait the births of Providence | H |
No gain is lost the clear eyed saints look down | I |
Untroubled on the wreck of schemes and creeds | J |
Love yet remains its rosary of good deeds | J |
Counting in task field and o'erpeopled town | I |
Truth has charmed life the Inward Word survives | K |
And day by day its revelation brings | L |
Faith hope and charity whatsoever things | L |
Which cannot be shaken stand Still holy lives | M |
Reveal the Christ of whom the letter told | D |
And the new gospel verifies the old | D |
